The Mister and I had the pleasure of attending our friend Mary's wedding to her dashing fella Jared on June 16th in Fresno, California. This wedding wowed! So before I dive into the details, meet Mary & Jared!
Aren't they beautiful? Mary and Jared really wanted a vintage feel to their wedding and with the help of friends and family they accomplished that in just three months.
Tons of family help went into the DIY elements of their wedding. In fact the only true vendor they used besides the venue, which was their church, was their photographer Rachel McNamara . Between the paper flowers that hung from the ceiling during their reception, all of the table decor, a beautiful song that was played by Mary's talented sister, and the sweet guest "book" art, Mary & Jared's wedding turned out beautiful and very personal.
I loved Mary's dress, the detail was beautiful and she looked stunning in it. Mary made her own veil. As her "something borrowed" she wore her mother's pearls. The pearls were a gift from Mary's father to her mother whom had passed two years prior (but I know was right there beside Mary). She also included lace that her mother had at each of the tables. For shoes Mary wore Toms to match Jared's which was too cute for words and an amazing way to avoid uncomfortable heels!
You all know how much I love sweets and not only was the cake delicious, it was also super cute! The song decorated onto the main cake is an actual song, how neat is that? The song is Cantaloop by Flip Fantasia. A couple days after Jared and Mary started dating, the song came on the radio and he sang along with it. It was the moment Mary started falling in love with him! I mean seriously? It doesn't get cuter than that...except when you hear about how Mary had the rings attached to the sweet plush dog Jared used to propose to her with as a surprise during the ceremony. This day was so full of love.
Since not everyone can pull off a wedding so pretty and sweet in just a few months, I asked Mary if she had any tips for brides trying to do so, or tips for planning a wedding in general. Mary had this to say:
Only select a few ladies closest to you to do most of the helping. Having too many people involve can add stress on you and sometimes if not everyone is in the loop people can start to feel left out.
Make sure you stand up for yourself if your feeling overwhelmed or even not well in general. Trying to tough through it could cause resentment on your end for not having time to yourself and resentment from others who may feel like you're not pulling your weight that day. Even with just a few months to yourself, you need time with your fiancee and time for yourself.
Lastly, soak in all in! You will be sad when the only way you get to see all your hard work and that of those who helped you come together is in pictures. It your day, so make sure you take lots of mental pictures and enjoy the fruits of your labor with your new hubby!
I also made sure to ask what the favorite memories were from their big day. Mary said that taking pictures in front of the hay and Jared reading his vows were her favorite. Jared's was seeing Mary for the first time that day and I can't blame him, she was stunning!
I can't end this post without sharing my personal picture of the Mister and I and the lovely newlyweds!

Cheers to such an organically beautifully, and wonderfully styled wedding. Such a simple design and perfect little Cayman wedding, oh how I dream of eloping when seeing weddings like these. Christin Rose for capturing this day so nicely.
And of course you have to end the night off with a little spontaneity! I love it.

I haven't been this excited a feature in a pretty long time, but this one just has it all! An amazing color palette, a really cool couple (thanks Mark & Amy Smith) and some amazing details. All captured by one of my new favorite photogs Chantal Andrea . Seriously, she is incredible.
Rachel at Finch & Thistle design the shoot including the floral and decor, and all these awesome details you see floating about. Sally at La Happy created a fun engagement party invitation suite which is pretty rocking! That mouth-watering (and hippest) vegan ombre cake was done by Kerissa bakes .
What a team right? This is literally urban magic.
Planning a wedding can turn into a real circus with all the different tasks brides and couples have to juggle. Between appointments, decisions and budgets, you may feel like you need a clown car full of people to help you get everything done. What if running away to the circus, was the wedding your planning? Sounds fun right? These weddings are just the ticket to a wedding day your guests wouldn't soon forget.
This Nashville wedding is a super sweet and understated circus theme. How fun is the brides pink reception dress?

This next wedding is the perfect blend of whimsy and elegance. The vintage umbrellas hanging from the sting of lights can be added to a vintage themed wedding as well to add a bit more drama to your skyline.

This last wedding is the real deal my friends. Imagine saying your vows under the big top, fire breathers on stilts and super cute attire and decor to complete you big day, circus style.

What do you think? Would any of you incorporate a circus or another fanciful theme into your big day?

Aren't those details just to die for? Seriously, such talent. Matt of Frame 44 was there documenting their big day as well and put together a trailer film featuring highlights from the big day. Watch this super sweet film featuring all the highlights you could ask for to get a feel for the emotions. And that my friends, is why I love video oh so much.
Take a watch at this super sweet video of Josh & Shelby's wedding.

I am still coming down from the high of one of my best friend’s wedding this past weekend. It was amazing – I am actually kind of sad it is over! And I am hoping to share more details of her wedding in a future post.
But this weekend did get me thinking about something that I hadn’t really thought about before – how am I going to wear my hair on my big day? I know that might be a weird thought, but all of us bridesmaids had our hair done this past weekend and several people asked me how I was going to wear my hair for my wedding and I had absolutely no idea!
For the last two weddings I was a bridesmaid in, I went with a high ballerina bun. I like that it is off my face, it’s fun and I don’t have to worry about wind or my very aggressive dancing messing it up.
And though I still love this look, I am not sure if I want it for my big day. Niall has said he wants my hair down (he also wants me to wear no make-up – obviously not happening!).
But I think my dress might look best with an up-do. And I also like not worrying about wind, or curls falling out (which is basically inevitable with my hair).
Any advice on figuring this out? Did you figure it out at your hair trial or know all along what you wanted?

I wanted to post a little post about my sister's wedding with some of my favorite pics from the day. Pictilio really was incredible in the photography department and I swear they saved my life just a little bit :)
Behind the scenes, this whole process was crazy fast! I did just about every aspect of this wedding in just about 2 months. I mean EVERY aspect.
A few months back my sister got engaged. The two of them are quite busy with work so it sort of became my job to put this whole thing together. I went to LA before the wedding, we had coffee and I said, "Tell me about your wedding." Her response, "Umm why don't you tell me about my wedding!" We both laughed for a second then I spoke a mile a minute about all the ideas, asking my regular questions to find out what is next, and telling her about the place settings, the layout, and the invites I had printed and sent out.
If you don't know how a backyard wedding goes, it is nuts. Absolutely nuts. You have to create something out of nothing and that takes a lot of stuff. I brought over a lot of furniture, tons of pieces to decorate with and crafted a ton for this thing. My fabulous husband was in charge of the music and designing the programs for us. He's such a nice guy that one!
Fast-forward to the day of the wedding. Oh was that stressful. Everyone's nerves were on high so everyone just sort of set-up what they were supposed to set up then went to get ready. It was an odd dynamic and I think something that comes with the stress of "we have to create something out of nothing". And then the photographers arrived. I was far from ready and my sister was not too happy (it was POURING down rain. I know how that feels). So I told the photographers to just take her, get them out of the house and go take some shots. They had found a spot to do the first look and they were super happy about it.
By the time they returned all the guests were seated, the rain had stopped, everything was done, the girls were lined up and ready to walk down the aisle. Perfect. :) From there it was sunny and gorgeous outside, everyone had a fabulous time, and all the stressing and craziness that had been going on inside me for about 2 months was over. She looked gorgeous and everyone was loving it.
I have said to before and I will say it again, a short engagement is a fabulous thing. You don't have time to get over-inspired, waver on decisions, or put off making decisions all together. I swear, things just get done :)
As for the music, we decided to create a Spotify playlist. Each playlist can be found here (Ceremony , Cocktail Hour , Dinner , Wedding Playlist )

I will be posting some more DIY tutorials in the near future (check out the guest book DIY tutorial I posted here) but if you have any questions on where I got things and how I created this event, feel free to comment or e-mail allison@engagedandinspired.com and I am happy to answer any questions!
I am traveling to New York this weekend for one of my best friend’s wedding and I couldn’t be more excited! She’s getting married at the Tarrytown House Estate and it looks stunning!
The grounds are amazing…
And check out that staircase!
More importantly, I am so excited to celebrate the marriage of my friends Robin and Bruce. They are an amazing couple and it is going to be so fun to celebrate them. I’ve got my dancing shoes packed – can’t wait!
